dancers jumping the air on stage

This past November, I had the most fortunate luck to come across an event with the Martha Graham Dance Company. It was called “Shoot the Dancers” and invited the audience to spend some time with the dancers….and take pictures of them! I was really surprised, mainly because I would never expect to have such an opportunity, at least not at this point in my career.

The best thing about the event was that they let their dancers really let loose and do their thing. It let their personalities really shine through, and you could really tell how in love with dance they were. All the members of the company are at the top of their game, and they are some of the preeminent dancers of today. Dancing for them is like talking for anyone else. It is completely second nature.

I hope to have the opportunity again to “Shoot the Dancers” one day, and who knows, maybe I can get hired to shoot them for a performance one day!

Thanks to Rose Eichenbaum for posting this event on her Instagram. I wouldn’t have known about it, otherwise! Also, it was really great to meet Rose and get some tips from her about shooting dance. She also does workshops and classes, and I may just take advantage
