Tap dancer on stage with a purple and pink background

No, this isn’t something you’d find in the back of a Hipster bookstore, it has to do with your images on your website! Your website and your social media is how potential customers find information about you, and the quality of your business. If you’re a dance studio or a music academy, they might be on your site checking for pricing, or on your Instagram looking at how clean or how new your studio is.

Why do you think all the social media stars and celebrities post professional-looking images on their Facebook and Instagram? Their social image is extremely important to them, as it can affect their reputation in a negative way if they don’t live up to the image they’ve created.  Even if the photo in the post looks candid or casual, it might not be. Actually, it could have been planned by that celeb’s marketing team and taken by a professional photographer who knows how to make that celeb look his or her best.

If image (i.e. brand reputation) is that important, then why wouldn’t you want to look your best to a potential customer? All other things being equal, a potential customer might choose a business that looks more professional than the other. If yours looks like the place most capable of teaching them a musical instrument or how to dance, then that’s where they’ll go.

So, with that idea, here’s a few characteristics of a good photo for your website or post:

  • Technically proficient photographically – good exposure, good color, and in-focus!
  • Properly framed with a strong photographic composition
  • Shows the proper musical, dance or performance technique that you teach
  • Tells the story of what you want to convey
